Penumbra: Overture Running On Linux (Gentoo) Native (HD)

Title: Penumbra: Overture (Linux Native Version)
Operating System: Gentoo Linux AMD64
Recording Software: ffmpeg’s x11grab

This is Penumbra: Overture under Gentoo Linux running natively. It is the first part in the three-part Penumbra series. I originally purchased this as part of the Humble Indie Bundle but I used the included promotion code to purchase the trilogy later the same night. This game is a survival horror adventure game played from a first-person perspective. The game does not focus on killing enemies as the few weapons you obtain are quite ineffective and you are unable to survive any considerable attack. Played in the right setting the game can create a pretty dreadful sense of horror and, due to the real danger any enemy presents, a sense of helplessness. As this is the first part of the series, the story is an unknown going in and you will find it is light on revelations even when you have reached the end. It creates a good foundation for the games that follow to build on. In the two episodic parts of Penumbra that follow the horror element of the game is vastly expanded upon. Black Plague, the second part of the series, is where the game really evolves into a psychological horror with a tense and frightening environment, enemies I don’t want to think about, and no weapons at all. The only option you have during an encounter is to run and hide. Horror is my favorite genre of game and I sincerely recommend this series to any horror fan and, especially, to Linux gamers who should support developers of native Linux games. Also take a look at Frictional Games newest game “Amnesia” which utilizes the latest version of their game engine and improves on all the elements of Penumbra.

Distro Review: Sabayon Linux 5.3 KDE

My opinion? It’s decent.

Sabayon Linux – Beryl is, by far, one of the best 3D desktop managers, period. Of course, setting up and configuring Beryl can be somewhat complicated.
